Coronary angiography can be performed through the inguinal vein (femoral artery) or the wrist (radial artery) to view the heart vessels. If there is an anomaly related to these vessels, angiography can be performed rarely by entering other vessels. Local anesthesia is applied to the entry site and a sheath is inserted into the vein.
Angiography from the inguinal vein (femoral artery) is more troublesome for the patient because of staying in bed for at least 4-6 hours after the procedure. However, it is an advantage that the inguinal vein is large in order to perform some complex balloon-stent procedures.
It is done by entering the wrist vein (radial artery). Arm angiography is superior to inguinal angiography in terms of patient comfort. After the arm angiography, the patient can stand up immediately. The probability of angiography-related problems in the wrist vein (radial artery) is much lower.
