The septum deviation is one of the most important situations in which the septoplasty procedure is required. Septum deviation is the medical name given to the curvature of the nasal septum, which is located in the midline of the nose. If we need to explain the nasal septum in daily language, we can say that the bony and cartilaginous structure which located in the middle of my nose. If there is a curvature in this structure, the person’s breathing becomes difficult, in some cases, the nostrils can be completely closed and breathing is not possible. Physical traumas can also cause septum deviation, which can sometimes occur in the mother’s womb and sometimes occur genetically.
In case of difficulty in breathing, the recommended septoplasty surgery is focused on solving the problems of the patients. During the septoplasty procedure, the bone structure that causes difficulty in breathing is removed from the nose. Afterward, it is ensured that the cartilage structure in the nose is rearranged and positioned so that it does not interfere with breathing.
Before septoplasty, which is a surgical procedure, necessary examinations are performed, as in all other surgical operations, and the patient’s suitability for surgery is determined. Of course, a decision is made by making use of radiographic imaging methods. Septoplasty is performed using the most appropriate anesthesia method. In some cases, rhinoplasty and septoplasty procedures can be performed together.
After septoplasty, the patient is followed up. After approximately 4-5 hours of follow-up at the hospital, if there is no adverse condition, the patient is discharged and rests at home, taking into account the medications and recommendations given by the doctor. Patients can return to their daily lives within 2-3 days after the procedure. However, of course, the recovery period may vary depending on the patient’s health status.
