Although lung cancer does not show symptoms in the early stages, various symptoms occur in the body when cancer starts to progress. The most common symptoms include a persistent cough. Persistent coughing worsens in time as a symptom of lung cancer. In addition, the patient’s sputum may be bloody and may have difficulty swallowing. The person’s voice gradually starts to become hoarse and he/she loses his/her appetite and loses weight very quickly. If you think you or someone close to you has the symptoms mentioned, it would be best to consult a doctor.
When deciding on the treatment method in lung cancer, it is necessary to look at how far cancer has spread, at what stage it is, and the health status of the patient. Treatment methods include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, as well as surgical intervention in lung cancer if deemed necessary. However, these treatments may not always be effective on their own. For this reason, in various cases, treatments can be used together or additional drugs may be recommended. If you are in the risk group for lung cancer, it would be best to consult a doctor and have a regular screening plan for yourself.
Patients with suspected lung cancer are primarily biopsied. If cancer is diagnosed after the biopsy, the doctor will perform various tests and choose the most appropriate treatment method. If surgery is considered necessary, the patient’s health status is checked at this point, and approval is obtained. However, in some cases, treatment techniques such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy may be applied first, as the tumor may be such that it cannot be removed by surgery. After the application of these techniques, lung tumor surgery is performed if it is still necessary. In some cases, it is possible to resort to other treatment methods after the surgery in the opposite way. It totally depends on the patient’s condition and needs.
In some cases, the tumor may go beyond the lung and spread to the chest wall, trachea, or diaphragm. In such cases, it is of great importance to check whether the disease has spread by taking tissue samples from appropriate organs during the surgery.
