The most important point of the Cyberknife system is that it can treat cancerous cells by shooting at various points of the body in the form of dense beams while protecting healthy organs and tissues from these high-dose radiation beams. Another name for this system, which serves human health and medicine with advanced technology, is the space scalpel.
Before looking at what systems does the Cyberknife consists of, it is useful to know how it works. It is possible to achieve great effects in a short time with the cyberknife, which revolves around the patient who is taken on a stretcher in a special room and completes the treatment by making numerous irradiations from hundreds of different angles during this turn. This highly effective method consists of two subsystems. In the first of these, the location of the tumor is determined using imaging techniques. In the second method, the patients are positioned and the rays are taken to the necessary parts of the body in a controlled manner.
Cyberknife, which is effective in many different types of cancer, is highly effective in lung, prostate, head and neck, and pancreatic cancers. At the same time, cyberknife treatment can be applied in various types of tumors, in cases where tumors are displaced, in the treatment methods of certain limbs that are highly sensitive to radiation. In addition to these, as it is known, there may be a medical remedy for some tumors that recur in the same area, or it may be necessary to remain shy about repeating the same treatment methods. However, in such cases, it is possible to apply the cyberknife method.
Although Cyberknife is a treatment method, it is not a surgical procedure. As we mentioned in the previous parts of our article, the patient is taken on a special dada stretcher and exposed to strong rays by a system moving in 6 different directions, and the treatment method is completed in this way. There is nothing that the patient should do or pay special attention to during or before the treatment. The Cyberknife system compares the snapshots taken during treatment with computed tomography and magnetic resonance images. Thus, the direction and dose of the radiation to be directed to the patient’s body is adjusted by the robotic system.
