Co-Culture

Co-culture is the method of culturing embryos in a single level from the zygote stage to embryo transfer together with the prepared somatic cells in the same culture broth. In this system, it is ensured that the patient's embryos are cultured in the in vitro environment as closely as possible to the in vivo conditions.

Co-Culture Effect

Although our knowledge about embryo development is increasing day by day, a culture medium that can meet all the needs of a developing embryo has not yet been defined. Co-culture:

It plays a role in implantation by providing paracrine signaling from the endometrium to the blastocyst.
It has the effect of increasing the number of ICM cells.
Plays a role in blastocyst formation.

In approximately 1/3 of the group with 2-3 unsuccessful attempts, pregnancy can be achieved by co-culture. Therefore, trying a co-culture application after a maximum of 3 unsuccessful attempts can be considered a meaningful approach. In addition, the improvement observed in embryo development has a positive effect on the increase in the number of embryos suitable for freezing.

In Which Situations is Co-Culture Applied?

In cases of repeated implantation failure (2 or more failed attempts)
In cases where low-quality embryo development is observed (Irregular division, unequal blastomere structure, high fragmentation)
In cases where slow embryo development is observed
