Embryo Freezing

Embryo freezing is the freezing of embryos obtained in the laboratory environment as a result of fertilization of the eggs taken from the mother-to-be and the sperms taken from the father-to-be after special procedures in order to be used in further pregnancy trials. It is a method that is used extensively especially for couples who want to leave the process of having a child for later ages.

Why is Embryo Freezing Done?

In general, if the number of healthy embryos obtained from the expectant mother is more than one in “in vitro fertilization” treatments, the embryos in suitable conditions can be frozen in order to be evaluated later. The maximum number of embryos that can be transferred to expectant mothers is two. If there are more embryos, the most suitable ones are selected and frozen. Thanks to this procedure, the chance of pregnancy can be obtained again in the future.

The most important advantage of transferring the frozen embryos to the mother-to-be at a later time is to avoid situations such as increasing the number of eggs or repeating the egg collection process in the next pregnancy trials.
