Among the symptoms of cataracts, the most important symptom is the gradual decrease in vision. In addition, sensitivity to light in the eyes, double vision, and deterioration in night vision may occur. Difficulty in reading, pale colors, and frequent changes in eye numbers are among the symptoms of cataracts. Unfortunately, the treatment of cataracts cannot be provided with glasses or medications. Although there is no way to stop the progression of cataracts, it is known that the only treatment method is surgical removal of the cataract.
The most preferred method in cataract treatment is the phaco method. In the phaco method, the eye is entered with a 2.2-millimeter incision and the cataract is cleaned. During the operation, the other layers of the eye are not damaged in any way, which is provided with a special liquid. Like the instruments used, the liquid prepared and the method is chosen also vary depending on the patient’s needs and health status.
One of the methods applied in the treatment of cataracts is the placement of a lens inside the eye. In this method, the natural lens of the eye is removed and an artificial lens with high focusing ability is inserted in its place. With this lens, which has various rings, it is easier to see both far and near at the same time. After various examinations, if patients comply with the treatment, they can reduce their dependence on distance glasses and reading glasses by using intraocular lenses.
Another method in cataract treatment is the femtosecond laser method. First of all, the eye is locally anesthetized by using drops during the surgery. Thus, it is possible to complete the operation without the patient feeling any pain. The most striking part of the “femtosecond laser” surgery, which we can also call bladeless surgery, is that there is no incision made during operation. Thus, the possibility of pain and suffering is low and the risk of complications is almost non-existent.
