Cancer Screening (Cancer Check-Up)

Early diagnosis of cancer increases the success of cancer treatment. For early diagnosis of cancer, it is important to have cancer screening tests for cervical, breast, large intestine, and prostate cancers, even if the person does not have any complaints.

In the early diagnosis of cervical cancer, it is recommended that women have regular PAP smear tests or light screening tests. For early diagnosis of breast cancer, breast self-examination and clinical breast examination before the age of 40 and mammography after the age of 40 are also important to prevent cancer. While fecal occult blood tests, colonoscopy, and colon x-ray can be done for early diagnosis of colon cancer for both men and women, PSA and rectal examination are recommended for men for early diagnosis of prostate cancer.

Why Cancer Screening

Regular examinations for the thyroid, skin, lymph nodes, mouth, and lung regions are important for people in the risk group. In order to detect the types of cancer that may occur in the urinary tract, kidney, and bladder, urine analysis can be performed with the “urine cytology” requested by your physician.

In addition, if your doctor suspects cancer, he or she may order a blood test and look at the number and size of blood cells. Blood cancer can usually be detected with this test. After the test, a bone marrow biopsy is performed for definitive diagnosis.

Cancer Screening Methods

The predisposition to some types of cancer can be determined by genetic testing by performing DNA analysis on saliva or blood samples.
Methods used for the diagnosis of breast cancer, mammography, digital mammography, ultrasonography, MRI imaging (Classic MRI or Whole Body MRI), biopsy methods, Ductoscopy and PET-CT.
For the early diagnosis of cervical cancer, it is recommended that all women have a regular PAP smear test from the moment their sexual life begins.
Even if there is no risk factor or complaint about colon and rectum cancer, routine occult blood test in stool from the age of 40 is important for early diagnosis.
It is important for every man to have a PSA test (checked with a blood test) at the age of 40 against prostate cancer, which is the second most common type of cancer in men.
