Color blindness can occur in two different ways. The first of these is color blindness caused by hereditary reasons, and the other is acquired color blindness that occurs later. Acquired color blindness occurs due to various reasons such as a problem in the retina or the visual center of the brain or damage to the parts that affect vision, and the side effects of certain medications.
Congenital color blindness is often transmitted by the sex chromosome known as the x chromosome. The incidence of color blindness is higher in men due to the presence of only one X chromosome in men and two in women: 0.5% in women, while this is 8% in men.
There is a common belief that color blind people cannot see any color and see the world in shades of gray. However, this opinion is not true for the vast majority of patients. Color blindness is not usually a disease with many symptoms. The symptoms of color blindness can usually vary compared to partial or complete color blindness. Colorblind people see colors, but because they see some colors pale, they may confuse colors with each other. Generally, distinguishing between red, blue and green is a big problem, especially for those who drive.
If you think that you have difficulty seeing certain colors or that you cannot see at all, it is recommended that you consult an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. If your ophthalmologist thinks you are colorblind after a thorough examination, he or she can diagnose whether you are colorblind with colorblindness tests.
The color blindness test is a fairly easy test. In this test, you will be asked to find the numbers or patterns of different colors hidden inside the colors. If you are half or fully colorblind, you will not be able to read hidden images or numbers made of different colors and dots. Based on the test results, your doctor can diagnose whether you have color blindness.
